Dallas, TX — In the wake of devastating floods and ongoing recovery efforts across Central Texas, Solomon Thomas, NFL defensive lineman and co-founder of The Defensive Line, is donating $25,000 to Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Centers (Hill Country MHDD) to fund critical trauma-informed mental health services for the residents and first responders still recovering from the disaster.
This contribution affirms both organizations missions and reflects a shared commitment to supporting communities with immediate and long-term mental health care – an often-overlooked but essential component of recovery.
“Natural disasters leave more than physical destruction; they tear at the heart and soul of families and communities,” said Thomas. “By supporting organizations like Hill Country MHDD, we ensure people have the mental health resources they need long after the floodwaters have receded. Mental health care isn’t a luxury; it’s essential, especially when trauma strikes.”
Serving over 19,000 people annually across 19 counties, Hill Country MHDD has been a steadfast lifeline during disasters, providing counseling, crisis stabilization, and outreach. Thomas’s donation will directly support these ongoing efforts to help families and individuals navigate the emotional toll of the floods.
“We are deeply grateful for Solomon’s generosity and his leadership in the mental health space,” said Tod Citron, CEO of Hill Country MHDD. “Disasters leave wounds that aren’t always visible, and this donation arrives at a crucial moment, enabling us to help people heal, rebuild, and find hope.”
The Defensive Line was founded by Solomon Thomas and his parents, Martha and Chris Thomas, in honor of Solomon’s sister Ella, who died by suicide in 2018. The organization’s mission is to end the public health crisis of youth suicide, with a focus on young people of color, by transforming the way we communicate and connect about mental health.
